Bamboo is such an incredibly innovative fabric that you have to wear it to believe it.

At the very core of our ethical luxury ethos is the importance of offering the finest sustainable textiles.

We offer two styles of fabric made with organic bamboo; our Bamboo Sport & our Bamboo Silk. It was essential to our founders that the fabrics offer sustainable solutions to the needs of modern life.

Not only is bamboo a better fabric for our planet, but it’s a better fabric for you! We’ve put together a list of our top reasons why you have to add some bamboo to your life…

What are the benefits of bamboo?

Bamboo is Ultra Soft: Bamboo is much smoother than cotton, feeling more like fine silk or cashmere. It is softer than even 1000 thread count Egyptian cotton and incredibly lightweight

Bamboo is Breathable & Sweat-Wicking: Bamboo fabrics wick away moisture and keep you sweat free by absorbing 40% more moisture than the finest cotton

Bamboo is Naturally Cool: All natural fibers have a built in temperature regulator and Bamboo has an even cooler natural temperature than silk & cotton.

Bamboo is Hypoallergenic: Bamboo has a natural resistance to insects & diseases-this means they are free of pesticides. This ensures that Bamboo plantations can grow the bamboo organically, keeping it chemical free.

Bamboo is Antimicrobial: Bamboo ‘kun’ is the name for the natural antimicrobial bio-agent found in bamboo. Because of this bio-agent, bamboo can be worn for up to three days without washing. Which is why this natural wonder fabric is being used in hospitals world wide for post-chemotherapy, newborn babies and people with common skin disorders such as Acne, Cystitis, Eczema and Dermatitis

Bamboo offers 60% UV Protection: Bamboo fabric can protect the skin (up to 60% UV resistant, reducing harmful UV effects from the sun).

Bamboo is Temperature Regulating: Naturally cooler than cotton or silk, bamboo is reactive, so adjusts with your body temperature

Bamboo is Durable: Bamboo has greater tensile strength (resistance to being pulled apart) than steel & withstands compression better than concrete. Our Natural bamboo fabric is durable and was made to last.

How is Kokoro’s Bamboo made?

Our Bamboo is created with a process whereby the Bamboo plant is broken up and dissolved into a solution, then pressed into fibres and cooled, with the fibres being spun into threads and finally woven into fabric. Our Bamboo Sport fabric includes 5% elastane for stretch and comfort.

Our Bamboo Silk follows a near identical process to our Bamboo Sport fabric, however our Bamboo silk is 100% derived from Bamboo fibres created using different parts of the bamboo shoots to create the pulp & dried in the sun to turn the bamboo fabric into a shiny satin finish.

Is Bamboo eco-friendly & sustainable?

To answer that properly, not always. Traditionally, during the process of creating bamboo viscose fabrics, the bamboo is chopped into larger pieces and dissolved in chemical solutions (including carbon disulphide, sodium hydroxide and sulphuric acid!) and then doused in another chemical bath to cool faster-not so natural.

That being said, our Bamboo Stretch& Bamboo Silk is certified Organic, which means that the bamboo is shaved into super fine fibres and soaked in a sodium solution to turn it into pulp before letting it dry naturally to spin the fibres into threads & weave our super-soft bamboo fabrics.

We are Oeko-Tex certified-learn more about what this means>>
